Sewing thread classification and characteristics

Classification of sewing thread

Divided into raw materials: natural fiber sewing thread, synthetic fiber sewing thread and blended sewing thread.

In accordance with the package type is divided into: wood core lines, paper lines, pagoda lines, soft ball lines, twisted tower line.

Sewing thread features and application

1. The cotton thread is made of ordinary cotton yarn or combed cotton yarn and twisted and processed. Features: The price is low, and the fastness is good. It can withstand high temperatures above 200 degrees. The cotton thread consists of three types of filament light, wax light and no light. Filament light is used for sewing cotton fabrics; wax has high light intensity and is suitable for sewing of stiff materials or leather garments; no light is characterized by softness, toughness, and good extensibility.

2, polyester-cotton thread is generally 65T/35C. Features: high strength, better wear resistance than cotton, shrinkage rate is less, only about 0.5%, heat resistance than polyester thread, can adapt to high-speed sewing. It can be used for the sewing of chemical fibers and their blended fabrics and some natural fabrics.

3. Polyester threads are mostly made of pure polyester staple fibers, and a few are made of polyester filaments. Features: Strength and abrasion resistance are better than cotton, ironing temperature up to 150 or so. Polyester filament yarns perform better than short fiber yarns. Generally used for sewing chemical fibers and blended fabrics, but also for sewing leather products and blankets.

4. The silk thread is made of multiple 2.2-2.4TEX silks and twisted. Features: Very shiny, soft texture, strong, elastic and abrasion resistance are higher than cotton. Silk yarns are used for sewing and keyholes in woolen, silk and fur garments, as well as embroidery threads.

5. Nylon thread, which is larger in stretch than polyester thread, good in elasticity, and light in weight, but its wear resistance and light resistance is inferior to polyester thread, it has low moisture absorption, and it is not heat-resistant. The ironing temperature is not higher than 120 degrees. It is generally used. Sewing synthetic fabrics and wool fabrics.
